SMI GROUP is a comprehensive shipping service provider based in Indonesia. Currently, we have over 40 employees at our headquarters in Jakarta. Over 20% of them are senior professionals of Chinese nationality, while the rest are well-educated Indonesian locals, even those who have studied abroad. Our group has a complete training and promotion system for junior crew members. In October 2024, the group has arranged some Indonesian crew members to undergo skill enhancement training at the Jiangsu Maritime Vocational Technical College in China. Such training will also be conducted on a long-term basis. Our group will continue to deepen its exchanges and cooperation with maritime colleges in both China and Indonesia, and supply excellent and professional crew members for shipowners in both countries and even internationally. All our operational vessels are equipped with real-time monitoring systems, which can be accessed through Starlink network to provide 7*24 coverage of the entire vessel from all angles. The monitoring videos can be viewed in real-time on TV, computers, and smartphones, and are stored in cloud servers which could be played back.

Started his career as an Ordinary Crew of China Shipping in 1998 when graduated from Shanghai Maritime Vocational and Technical College and served till 2009, then he worked for SITC Shipping Lines from 2010 to 2015 and obtained Captain’s License during this period. In 2015, Capt. Gu bid farewell to his seafaring career and became a shore-based manager in Goldenking Shipping Co.,Ltd. With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Captain Gu brings extensive industry expertise and system knowledge to the group.
served for Cosco Shipping for 12 years as an Engineer since graduated from Jiangsu Maritime Vocational and Technical College. Now, he leverages his years of experience to help the Group establish and improve various management systems, and he is responsible for the daily management of crew and fleet.
Capt. Chai, Graduated from Jiangsu Maritime Institute in 2009 and brings 16 years of oceangoing experience, rising from cadet to captain within COSCO Shipping Group. He has served leading shipowners including Hong Kong Wallem and Pacific Basin across various vessel types. In 2022, he returned to academia to teach core maritime subjects, and in 2024 transitioned ashore as a Marine Superintendent, overseeing vessel conversions and newbuildings. In 2025, he supervised the company’s first 68,000 DWT vessel and captained its maiden voyage, while also establishing the Group’s Risk Control and Strategic Development Safety Operations Department. He currently serves as Manager of SMI Shipping Operations Department and Overall Marine Superintendent of the Indonesian fleet, demonstrating strong leadership both at sea and ashore.
Mr. David Ma, Graduated from Dalian Maritime University and has built a distinguished career across both sea-going and shore-based roles. He spent 3 years with Star Cruises in Hong Kong and 13 years with COSCO Shipping, including 6 years as Chief Engineer on ocean-going vessels. He later contributed to maritime education as a lecturer for 4 years and gained further experience in ship management within a Chinese state-owned enterprise. With deep expertise in marine engineering, electrical systems, ship repair, and fleet management, he currently serves as Chief Engineer and Technical Advisor at GMI Ship Repair Company, as well as Fleet Manager at SMI Fleet Management Company.
